A day in the life....

Thought I'd share a few of the pictures I've taken recently....

Not sure what this is called but this vine suddenly started producing these pretty little purple "trumpet" flowers! I just love them...

One of our gorgeous, gorgeous sunsets over the pond!...

DS7 with the 4-foot Cottonmouth that DH shot in the pond!....nature comes in all shapes and sizes around here!!

Another sunset.....I just never get tired of these....

Trip to the zoo

The Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa had a special reduced-price admission yesterday so we took advantage of it and headed over for the day. What a BEAUTIFUL place!! We had such a nice time. It was overcast most of the day, too, which kept the searing heat at bay. Fortunately when the zoo was built, someone had the foresight to realize that since Florida is so hot for so much of the year, some shade might be nice for the patrons! They left many of the huge, old oak trees, which spread their branches like a big canopy.

I put the camera to good use, naturally....Here are a few of the critters we saw!

This was an Indian (I think?) rhinocerous....All I could think of was the two dudes in the first "Ice Age" who are about the devour the last dandelion when Sid comes along and chomps it up!!!

Mom white tiger and two cubs (that's mom on the platform....Smart mom!!)...the cub below her was pestering her no end...Kitties of all sizes like to play, I guess!

Ok, does this mother orangutan not look like she's shaking her fist at all us gawkers?!!! How funny is that....

This is their new koala....Since koalas spend 90% of their day napping, it was no surprise to find him fast asleep!

The Okapi...such a neat looking animal!

Texas trip

Our trip to Texas was VERY good! If the last little details fall into place, we should be heading over around the middle of August. I absolutely loved it...It's a little paradise out there and a homestead just waiting to happen. I have so many ideas already!

It's a 2-day road trip, so here is what two days of boredom in the van can do to a 9-yr. old boy....!

The approach to the Texas state line over the Sabine River on I-10...

THIS is the view from the front porch! There was a bench swing on the porch and every morning I went out with my Bible and a cup of coffee and sat and soaked up the peacefulness...

Cute candid shot of father and son fishing! The pond is full of perch and a few bass...

My future chicken coop!! This housed exotic birds of some kind at one point, but is perfect for chickens....

*sigh*.....The barn....! There is already a large enclosed area behind the barn as well a couple of run-in sheds. Can you say "horses" ?!!

Looking at the house from across the pond....

The road from the house to the main part of camp....

I have really grown to love Florida while we've been here, but it is clearly not our final destination. It's expensive to live here and DH hasn't found sustainable work. As he put it, all the conveniences in the world don't matter if you don't have any money to use them! Too true. Actually the camp, while quite isolated itself, is only 20 minutes from a major town with all the same stuff we have here in Florida, so it's not like we're going to a little tiny rural hamlet.

I think it's going to be a great new adventure!

Boston

Just a few pictures from our trip to Boston last weekend.....

The first picture is just an upward shot from the street; the next is the old Boston state house; the third is some jelly fish at the New England Aquarium, and the last guy right here is one of the many penguins there! They are very entertaining to watch.

My resolve....

...has been hardened.

I hate cold weather.

I spent a glorious weekend in Florida recently and absolutely did not want to come back! Hubby said he'd send the kids to me via FedEx!...lol! My "welcome home" to NH was a doozy of a snowstorm yesterday. Yay.

I took some pictures in Florida (of course!), which I'm posting here for you to enjoy!

These are from Heritage Village in Seminole, FL. It's a collection of restored buildings from all over the state that are of historic significance or interest.

In and near St. Petersburg...

And finally, some scenes from The Pier in St. Petersburg (the pelicans were EVERY where!)...

The ship is a replica of the HMS "Bounty" and is the actual ship used in the '60s film "Mutiny on the Bounty" !

I made a humorous discovery yesterday. 99% of my wintertime photos are taken from inside my porch or standing just barely outside on the landing!! lol! Gee, wonder why that is?!

Actually there is a lot of beauty in the winter outdoors, if one can brave the cold. I'm also usually concerned about my camera in that weather, and of course the battery won't last very long in extreme temperatures.

I took these pictures yesterday during the snow storm (yes, from the porch...). The birds were quite busy staying warm!

This guy spent much of last winter hanging around our yard. It's a Barred Owl. It was such a treat to have an owl so close for so long!

I really enjoy watching the birds and will be participating in the annual winter Bird Count next month. If you are into birds at all it's a great way to help, and you can get more info and sign up at: http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/
